Importance of Father's Day

Father's Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a time to express gratitude and appreciation for the men who have shaped us. Fathers play a crucial role in our development, offering guidance, support, and wisdom. Whether they are biological fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, or father figures, their influence is profound and enduring. This day reminds us to acknowledge their efforts and the pivotal role they play in building strong, loving families.

Personal Stories

This year, we’re delighted to highlight six heartfelt personal stories from our Eggoz family, showcasing the diverse and profound impact fathers have on our lives while highlighting that they are the best foodie partner.

1. Story by Aditya

In my family, everyone loves mutton. Whenever we have a family get-together, my dad makes our favorite mutton tikiya (Toondey kebab). He uses traditional methods, like grinding spices on a sill batta, adding paan, gulkand, and other spices, and cooking patiently. I always enjoy it when I eat mutton tikki.

I live in Gurgaon, and my family is from Madhya Pradesh. One day, at home, I craved 'mutton tikiya.' I called my dad and asked, Papa, wo mutton tikiya kaise banaate hai?' He laughed warmly and said, 'Stay on the call; I'll give you the complete recipe.' As he shared the instructions, I prepared the ingredients. Grinding spices and boiling chana dal on the sill batta was challenging, but I managed with effort. Finally, I made it, and when I tasted it, it truly felt like my father had cooked it for us.

This dish was made by my grandfather and passed down to my father. Now, I am learning to make it, preserving our family heritage. Mutton tikiya isn't just about the traditional ingredients; it's about my dad's efforts, dedication, and love. This makes my favorite 'mutton tikiya' even more delicious.

2. Story by Anurag Saboo

There is something beautiful about a son who has tremendous love and respect for his father. As he grows, he may not realize how much he is becoming like him and eventually may think he is better than his father. In this journey, the son often forgets to express his respect and gratitude, failing to thank his father for being a role model.

I have learned from my father that there is nothing he cannot do. When I request a master chef's recipe to be replicated at home, my father, without hesitation, takes up the challenge, even though my mother hates him being in the kitchen. I have always seen my father meticulously working on the recipe. In fact, my mother dislikes it when my father adds his own touch to the dish.

Dedication and love are the spices that make any dish taste better. Today, I want to openly acknowledge my father, who is the best person I look up to on this planet.

3. Story by Neeraj

It was a Sunday evening, and it was raining, so everyone was at home, and some relatives were about to come over. Dad signalled to me and my younger brother said, "Let's make pakoras, and there's an India-Pakistan match coming up, so it will be fun." Dad always keeps everyone happy with small surprises like this. So, the three of us went to the kitchen without telling anyone and started preparing. Dad first put the potatoes to boil, and I started making the batter with gram flour. My younger brother began helping Dad chop the vegetables. Dad was joking while working, "Son, the fun of the match is only there when there are hot pakoras."

Suddenly, Mom realised something was up. When Mom came into the kitchen, we had almost finished our preparations. Dad smiled and said, "Arre, tum dekho bas, aaj ke match ka maza do-guna kar denge humare pakode." The three of us made potato pakoras together. But then we realised that in the process of making pakoras, we had made a mess of the entire kitchen. Flour, gram flour, and vegetable peels were scattered everywhere.

Dad laughed and said, "Look, mission accomplished, now the post-match kitchen clean-up is up to you." Mom laughed too and said, "Now you know how much effort it takes to keep the kitchen clean?" Since then, Mom hasn't let Dad cook often because his fun-loving nature turns the kitchen into a battlefield. But it was a fun moment, and the pakoras turned out great.

4. Story by Prachi

One of my favourite memories with my dad is our random Sunday morning trips to Rajghat. I still can't believe we used to wake up that early on a Sunday! We'd stop at the Mother Dairy booth for some good chocolate milk, which we both loved (okay, I loved it, and he had to drink it). On the way back, we'd always have the best plate of chole bhature at 8 AM. Those mornings were simple but so full of joy, and I'll always treasure that time with him.

5. Story by Deepanshu

When dad comes home, he asks me to make tea for both of us. Every time I end up making too much tea, dad says, "You take after your mother in this." He then shows me how to make the perfect tea: Thoda paani, thoda dhudh, thodi cheene or thodi chai patti fir isko thoda pakana h jese teri maa meko pakaati hai or humari chai ready hai.

6. Story by Sandeep

My 7-year-old son wrote a note for me when asked to share his favorite father-son moment. He wrote, "One day, my father and I made a sandwich. It was our first experience making a sandwich, and we were so excited. I helped my father chop the vegetables. When it was ready, I made a smiley on it. It looked funny. I enjoyed it with my father. It was delicious, and I love my Dad."
